MAPS Study - MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy
http://www.maps.org/research/mdma |
Revew & key notes
1/3 of people with PTSD do not find a restitution for their PTSD. This is known as chronic treatment resistant PTSD and is what MAPS is trying to tackle with MDMA assisted psychotherapy. studies have shown very positive results. 83% of patients involved in the study no longer qualify as having PTSD.
In MDMA psychotherapy the patients only take the medicine (MDMA) 3 times, whereas conventional medicine is required to be taken every day.
This research looks at the safety AND efficacy of MDMA.
The research is reaching stage 3 which is the final stage of trails before the medicine can be available to the general public. Stage 3 will begin in 2017 and will be rolled out to 400 patients in a clinical trail environment.
Note to self: research into the effects of psychoactive drugs on creativity and artistic creativity is unlikely to go ahead before research into the benefits of these drugs on psychotherapy are concluded. i.e its the next step.
Relevance
Further investigation into a class a substance, aiding progressing into mental health and sciences. this could link to my CoP project showing the unlocked potential of banned substances.
The only way we can truly know if a substance does harm or good across the entire spectrum of possibilities, is by investigating into it. this research cannot be carried out unless its legal to do so, and mad available to medical sciences. only with further research into these banned psychoactive drugs could we see further potential in terms of creativity and conciseness
