I feel most people have already been exposed to the negative effects of smartphone overuse, either by direct negative experience or by the recent information/studies arising from such a popular and current topic. It is because of this that I would like to create a visual diagram with a "self help" attitude to the problem. I am a little worried that some of the information regarding how to overcome smartphone addiction may be a little too obvious, but `I like how this idea isn't a way to just list the dangers (as a lot of others have), but takes it one step further and looks at solutions, illustrating a more positive approach to mindfulness and has tasks/checklists and information for the audience to implement themselves and find a solution through little changes to their day-to-day lifestyles and routines.
After my research into nomophobia and smartphone addiction, stemmed from my map of understanding to help create my Petcha Kutcha presentation, I have had the initial idea of an illustrated broken mobile phone for my visual diagram. Within each part of the shattered screen, there could be a little self-help task to be completed. This idea will hopefully help communicate that even though the phone is broken, there are better, more mindful ways of living - without the addiction to this technology.
Media
My visual diagram could possibly take the form of an infographic, striking, bold and colourful in its nature to help communicate the importance of the message clearly. However, unlike an infographic, I feel that working in analogue media such as watercolour (instead of digital media), will help to better communicate the "non-digital" theme of my visual diagram.
